Today’s episode is all about the effects of stress on your hormones and using personal genetics for deeper insight.
Dr Penny Kendall-Reed, is a Naturopathic doctor, author of 5 best selling books and international lecturer on neuroendocrine related diseases, chronic stress and weight disorders. Penny is also our absolute go-to person in the field of personal genetics.
We talked so much about stress, and the way changes in your stress hormones affect weight, cravings, immune system, sleep and more. Perimenopause could be described as the time when life and stress collide – many symptoms of perimenopause could be stress-induced, trouble sleeping, abdominal weight gain, irregular periods, skin and hair changes. Penny provided lots of tips on nutrition, the timing of our meals, supplements and more to help with stress, cravings and metabolism. And finally, we discussed the world of personal genetics and how they shaped Penny’s work with patients and her understanding of health. It gets a little technical for a few minutes as we get into details with a few genes, but bear with us, the practical tips return!
